While still Newcastle manager, Rafa Benitez was reportedly keen to sign Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos last summer, and the Colombian’s agent now appears to be encouraging clubs to make bids.
Speaking to Tutto Mercato Web, one of Morelos’ management team, Theofilos Karasavvidis, was asked about the striker, and he urged interested clubs to take his client now, before everyone wants him, and his price increases significantly.
The comments are not likely to please Rangers manager Steven Gerrard, but it certainly sounds like Morelos’ agent can scent a big money move away from Scotland for the player.
Crystal Palace were last month reported to be lining up a £20 million bid for the prolific goal-scorer in January, and we have been hoping Newcastle would maintain their interest in him.
Morelos’ incredible goal ratio suggests he will score goals in the Premier League
A transformed character, it seems, he appears to have ironed out his attitude and disciplinary problems, and knuckled down to what he is paid to do – score goals.
He currently has an incredible 22 goals from 26 games for Rangers this season, and has naturally caught the eye of Premier League clubs.
Newcastle need goals, and if Morelos’ agent is actively trying to secure a move for the player, Newcastle would be foolish not to reignite their former manager’s interest.
If he is available for around £20m, as mentioned previously, it would likely be too much for the Ibrox club to turn down, and would surely represent a bargain answer to Newcastle’s goal-scoring issues.
