Achraf Lazaar needs to leave Newcastle for his own sake

Rafa Benitez made some great signings when he was manager of Newcastle, but unfortunately, Achraf Lazaar will not be remembered as one of them.

The full-back has never had a run in the side, but in fairness, his form on the odd opportunity he did get, has not warranted it.

But the Chronicle has reported that at least three sides are interested in signing the Moroccan before the continental transfer window closes.

The player is said to have received offers from Italian Serie A side Hellas Verona and Dutch club Utrecht.

But another Italian side, Firoentina, are also said to be considering a move, and the Tuscan side could be a fantastic opportunity for the defender, should the interest be firmed up.

A career in limbo, Lazaar must move on

The player should accept one of the options available to him, even if it means taking a drop in wages.

Surely for a professional footballer, playing is the most important thing, and it is hard for fans to understand why players like Lazaar – who earn astronomical salaries in comparison to the vast majority of fans, regardless of who they play for – would want to kick their heels every week as opposed to getting on the pitch.

Lazaar had a loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday for the second half of last season, and he did pretty well, but the Yorkshire side could not afford his salary, so a permanent deal never materialised.

For the sake of his career, he should be itching to accept one of these deals.

Hopefully, any deal will be a permanent one, and as unsuccessful as his time on Tyneside has been, most Newcastle fans would wish him well in his future endeavours.
