The joy of being a Newcastle United supporter is just too much at times.
Sarcasm aside, naturally there will be some drones upon reading this headline. But as England look to do the unthinkable at Euro 2020, we thought it would be a good idea to share this at club level too.
Say what you want about manager Steve Bruce, there are still reasons to look ahead to the season with at least semblance of optimism. Here, we have listed a few.

Allan Saint-Maximin
Newcastle’s star player has been growing in ability year-on-year. The Frenchman will be fresh from missing out from a Euro spot with France, while he is nearing his peak age as well.
All that is needed from his game is a bit more delivery in the final third, whether that’s shooting or crossing. We got to see a bit more of that during the latter stages of last season. The hope – and expectancy – is that it can continue now into the fresh campaign.
The £50million transfer budget
Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley will apparently give Steve Bruce £50 million to spend this summer, with The Sun claiming the figure will be rewarded to Bruce for keeping the club up last season.
It’s not a great deal by today’s standards, but it’s a lot by Ashley’s standards. Logically, such money to bolster the side will move them up the table next season, as they bring in new additions. But logic rarely associates itself with Newcastle.

Callum Wilson at full fitness
Callum Wilson will be raring to go after missing out on a place in the England team for the Euro 2020 finals. Last season, the striker netted a credible 12 Premier League goals despite his campign being marred by injury.
Now in his second year at St James’ Park, if Wilson can get through a season unhampered, then we can expect further goals from the forward.
The Jones factor
“I’m disappointed for Allan and for us that situation has occurred but we’re really pleased to be able to bring Graeme Jones in, who is obviously working with Newcastle at the moment.”
England head coach Gareth Southgate speaks very highly of Graeme Jones. When the former Bournemouth man came to Newcastle last year, he reinvigorated the side.
His presence within the Newcastle team is no doubt a huge benefit for them, especially with Bruce at the helm.
