£32m Newcastle player must start on Saturday, Eddie Howe can’t afford to make the same mistake twice

Eddie Howe has a big decision to make with his Newcastle United team selection as he looks to avoid making another key mistake this weekend.

Newcastle were embarrassed the last time they faced Nottingham Forest as Chris Wood netted three times in 3-1 win and Dan Burn was absolutely torn to shreds at left-back.

The former Brighton man had a very ‘poor‘ game for Newcastle before being hooked after 55 minutes, and Howe simply must start Tino Livramento this weekend to stop the same thing happening again.

Howe has to start Livramento for Newcastle on Saturday

The supporters have already shown that they’re growing a little impatient with Howe’s loyalty to Burn, even if they are fully supportive of him as manager, after chanting Tino’s name vs Luton.

The £32m signing did eventually come on in the second half after Burn had a torrid time by conceding the penalty for the third goal and losing the ball in midfield for the Hatters’ fourth.

The 31-year-old suffered something similar last time against Forest as Anthony Elanga recorded two assists while up against Burn who was then substituted shortly after.

With Elanga and Morgan Gibbs-White likely to line up out wide for the Premier League side once again, Howe can’t afford to make the same mistake by starting Burn again and he must turn to Livramento this weekend.

Livramento is Newcastle’s long-term future

Whether he is playing on the left or the right, Livramento is going to be starting for Newcastle at some point in the future after proving to be a very capable and skilful defender.

From the outside looking in it just makes sense to get the 21-year-old bedded in as early as possible, and especially when he has proven to time and time again that he can go up against some of the best in the world.

His performances in the Champions league against PSG and Borussia Dortmund give fans no reason to believe why he can’s already be included in the starting 11.

Yes, Burn’s height can be very useful from set-pieces, but is it really wort sacrificing the pace and attacking threat Livramento holds to have a taller play defending and attacking corners and free-kicks?
