Newcastle United’s January transfer window wasn’t perfect.
But the squad is undoubtedly much stronger now that it was at the start of the month.
Five new faces have arrived, and fans are extremely hopeful they can help guide the club away from the relegation zone.

On paper, Newcastle’s squad easily has enough quality for relegation not to be a worry.
It remains to be seen if Eddie Howe can get them all on song.
Fans are very curious to see if they’ll all be able to hit the ground running at St. James’ Park, and here are a few potential player combinations to look out for:
Matt Targett and Allan Saint-Maximin
The addition of Matt Targett on loan is good business by Newcastle.
The 26-year-old is a proven Premier League defender and was Aston Villa’s number one left-back up until they signed Lucas Digne a few weeks ago.
The star tends to deliver very consistent performances, and has a good all-round game.

Targett linked up really well with former Villa talisman Jack Grealish
And there is every chance he will do the same with Newcastle’s star man who, like Grealish, plays from the left wing and likes to cut in on his strong right foot.
Targett will no doubt look to overlap the Frenchman wherever possible.
Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton
Bruno Guimaraes is without question the most eye-catching transfer Newcastle made last month.
The ace joined from Lyon in a deal worth just under £42 million all in (Lyon official).
Big things are expected of the central midfielder, who made an assist in Brazil’s win over Miguel Almiron’s Paraguay last night.

Potentially, he could forge a very effective partnership with his fellow countryman Joelinton.
The former Hoffenheim star, who cost the Magpies £40 million (BBC Sport) has recently transitioned into a midfielder, and he has looked right at home in the role.
The South American duo could be absolute dominate together as a pair of number 8s. And then Jonjo Shelvey could sit in just behind them.
Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood
There is potential for Newcastle’s first two January signings to be the most effective combination going forwards.
Trippier’s defending has come on leaps and bounds over the past couple of years having worked with Diego Simeone.
But he has always be known as a full-back with a wicked delivery.

Whether that be from corners, free-kicks or open play, the England international is fantastic at putting the ball into the box.
Standing at 6ft 3in tall, Wood stands to benefit immensely from having a player like Trippier in the team.
The New Zealand international is a big aerial threat. And so, this is definitely a new combination to watch out for.
