21-year-old Newcastle youngster could be about to get his big chance after developments yesterday

Newcastle United could offer one of their young academy talents a chance in the first team after learning of a new injury which could leave the team very thin in the second half of the season.

News broke yesterday that Joelinton could be set to undergo an operation on a tendon in his groin which is likely to keep him out for the season, so there could be an opportunity for someone else to impress.

We’ve seen how Lewis Miley adapted to life in the Premier League, and now with Joe White returning from his loan at Crewe Alexandra, he could yet be in Eddie Howe’s plans this season.

Newcastle’s injury crisis looks to be never ending

When Sandro Tonali first received his lengthy ban keeping him out until August, Howe could never have imagined that things would spiral out of control like they have done now.

No Tonali, Joe Willock or Joelinton means that there are just three fit midfielders currently in Newcastle’s first team, and even Bruno Guimaraes is now one yellow card away from a two-match ban.

It is inevitable that the Brazilian will pick up his 10th booking of the season, leaving Sean Longstaff and Lewis Miley as the only central midfielders, so the ‘promising‘ Joe White could soon be included.

White enjoyed a fairly successful loan spell at Crewe in the first half of the season with the League Two club keen to retain his services for the remainder of the campaign, but that may be taken out of their hands

White has impressed those at Newcastle

Having shown signs of a quality midfielder in the summer, White was sent back out on loan as it was felt he would learn more by playing regular football, and its looks to have worked as the 21-year-old was getting into a good run of form.

Speaking on White’s return, Howe claimed that he was ‘very pleased‘ with what he saw from the youngster and is keen to take a closer look at him now that he’s returned to the North East.

This isn’t suggesting that he’s going to be Newcastle’s next star midfielder in the Premier League, but with the lack of funds to replace injured players it seems like this is a very realistic possibility.

Of course, there is also the potential of bringing Isaac Hayden back into the mix after his loan spell with Standard Liege was cut short, though it looks like he is in talks to go back out on loan to a Championship side in January.
