20-year-old Newcastle star needs to be loaned out in 2023, he’s been dubbed ‘the Geordie Maradona’

Elliot Anderson has to be loaned out by Newcastle United in 2023.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed first-team action this season, having made nine senior appearances.

Seven of these have come in the Premier League, having come off the bench for the last ten minutes or so as either a winger or as a central midfielder.

Furthermore, he has also started twice for the Magpies in the Carabao Cup. However, having made the later rounds of the competition, the youngster failed to play against Bournemouth on Tuesday – with Eddie Howe favouring a stronger XI.

Therefore, although he has been around the Toon’s first-team squad this year, it will be imperative for the U21 Scotland international to go out on loan in 2023, as he continues to progress.

During the second half of last season, Anderson joined Bristol Rovers on loan in League Two. In 21 appearances for the club, he proved critical in helping the Gas gain promotion, bagging eight goals and five assists. This even included a goal and two assists against Scunthorpe during an emphatic 7-0 victory in the final game of the season – which saw Joey Barton’s side win automatic promotion on goals scored.

Anderson needs to go out on loan

Having impressed Howe during a fantastic pre-season campaign, Anderson has not been afforded enough game-time, especially an amount worth staying for.

Therefore, with Newcastle looking extremely impressive during the first half of the season, this isn’t expected to change over the coming months.

As a result, the best course of action would be to send ‘the Geordie Maradona’ out on loan.

Having excelled in League Two with Rovers, a Championship move for the youngster would be the ideal scenario for his development.

Anderson has already experienced the rigours of the Premier League, so a loan to the second division would allow for regular game-time at a very high level.

Thus, a temporary switch for the second half of the season would be the best course of action for the talented midfielder, who has been described by Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman as ‘one of the most exciting young players’ in England.
