Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to reveal that they’d like to see Karl Darlow keep his place in Steve Bruce’s XI, even after Martin Dubravka returns to full fitness.
The Slovakia international, who is Bruce’s No.1 and was called ‘outstanding’ by the Magpies boss in February, has been missing so far this season with an ankle injury, leaving Darlow as the man to fill in.
The Chronicle quote the ex-Crystal Palace boss as saying: ‘How many times have I come into a press conference and said the goalkeeper has been outstanding. He was outstanding again.’
Impressively, the former Nottingham Forest man has done well. He excelled against Tottenham recently to keep Newcastle in the game, which allowed us to snatch a point at the death after a controversial penalty award.
So far, the Englishman has made four Premier League starts this term, conceding five goals and keeping one clean sheet.
Additionally, Gareth Southgate was even alerted to the glovesman after his heroics against Jose Mourinho’s men.
Of course, Dubravka is the outright No.1 and would surely be playing if not for his injury.
In that respect, it is interesting to see Newcastle fans say that they’d like Darlow to keep his place, even when the former Sparta Prague shot-stopper is back.
Let’s see what they’ve been saying about the situation on Twitter…
Newcastle fans want Karl Darlow to keep his place even when Martin Dubravka returns
You have to stick with Darlow 100%, it’s good for both of them. Gives Darlow confidence that there is a way into the team for him and that he’s trusted, sharpens Dubravka as it shows his place isn’t guaranteed if he plays poorly etc and that we have a more than able backup.

Voted Darlow. Dubstep is still our number one but there’s no need to rush him back like we did with Schär which ended in disaster.

Dubravka is obviously our no1 but darlow has taken his chance and until he’s out of form then he should stay

Now that is a tough one, last season I would have said Dubravka all day but Darlow has impressed me so far this season so going to have to say stick with him for now

Does not deserve to be dropped straight away like not like we are bottom and he has let in 20 goals

Can easily see both sides of the debate. But if someone is brought in and performs well then they shouldn’t be dropped. Let’s not forget Dubravka has had some howlers so we’re all only human. Darlow should keep his place until his form disappears.
