Zlatan Ibrahimovic backs £69m player to be a success at Newcastle

Newcastle United will soon announce the signing of Sandro Tonali from AC Milan and now Zlatan Ibrahimovic has backed him to be a success.

If there’s one man who knows what it takes to be successful in football it’s recently-retired Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The former Swedish international had an absolutely outstanding career before hanging up his boots this summer.

During his two spells at AC Milan, Ibrahimovic played 125 games and scored 76 goals while winning the Serie A title twice. The latest title win was with Sandro Tonali in the side in 2021/22 when Ibrahimovic had a positive influence on the young midfielder.

Now with ‘exceptional‘ Tonali’s impending £69million move to Newcastle to play in the Premier League, Ibrahimovic has backed Tonali to be a success, telling Gazetta dello Sport (h/t HITC): “Is Tonali ready for the Premier League? Yes, I think so. It depends on him.  

“I made him understand the right mentality he must have to win. And he won. He has grown a lot with Milan, he has a great responsibility and he still has to grow.

“But he will make it in England, and he will make it well.” 

It may be the weekend before the transfer is officially announced

Let it never be said that Ibrahimovic his a humble man. He’s now taking credit for Tonali’s success, but would you expect anything less from Zlatan?

Despite his insistence on taking credit, I believe in what he’s saying, that Tonali will make it in the Premier League. He’s already a class act at just 23. The Italy U21 captain while also playing for the senior side. he has been tipped to be a leader at Newcastle by Paulo Di Canio.

Newcastle’s deal for Tonali is said to pretty much all sewn up but the delay in announcing the signing is down to the Italian transfer window not opening until Saturday, and Newcastle also don’t want to be too much of a distraction for him while he’s on international duty at the Under 21 European Championship.
