Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has identified Napoli star Victor Osimhen as an ideal candidate to join the Magpies’ strike force.
Since the takeover, Newcastle have massively improved their squad over the course of four transfer windows. Despite their still relatively newfound wealth, they are yet to splash the cash in the extraordinary way that many might have expected.
Now the richest club in the world, it is arguable that as of yet there has been no marquee signing similar to what the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea produced despite a handful of additions growing into stars since their arrivals.

Speaking on The Rest is Football, Shearer was asked about the Magpies’ transfer dealings and whether he would like to see any bigger names come in. Micah Richards posed the possibility of Osimhen, who cost roughly £60million in 2020, and the ex-Newcastle striker agreed that he would be a fan of that deal if they were able to land the Nigerian ace.
“Who would you like to see? When I was at Man City we signed Robinho who took us to the next level, who would you like to see? Osimhen maybe from Napoli?,” Richards asked.
“Yeah, they already have [Callum] Wilson and [Alexander] Isak, but I do not think you can ever have too many up top, you can change and rotate, he would have been a very good signing yeah. They have done it differently than we thought, a more measured way rather than going out and buying that big name,” replied Shearer.
It is not just the former England international who is a big fan of the 24-year-old, however, as he has been a standout player for some time now after all.
Fellow Premier League legend Didier Drogba also holds the Napoli man in very high regards.
“I like him a lot. Great striker,” said Drogba in an interview with Marco Giordano.
“He can be the best in the world and when you have the talent like he has got, I think it is just a question of momentum.”
Osimhen and PIF
Wilson and Isak have proven to be more than capable front men for the Magpies during their time at St. James’ Park, though adding Osimhen into the mix would be an undeniable coup.
We already know that PIF like him due to their massive money offer over the summer in an attempt to lure him to Al-Hilal, so this deal may perhaps have room for potential.
Anything is possible.
