Newcastle United youngster Yankuba Minteh has been enjoying a very successful loan spell at Feyenoord this season.

The attacker scored his fourth goal and his last three games at the weekend and after the match he shared how he felt about his future at the club.

In an interview after Feyenoord’s 3-0 win, Minteh said that he would be open to re-joining the Dutch club on loan next season if Newcastle don’t have him in their first-team plans.

Minteh happy to spend another season away from Newcastle

Newcastle sent Minteh over to the Eredivisie to help him get some first-team experience in a top European league having signed him in the summer for around £7m from Belgian side Odense.

The 19-year-old has shown a solid run of form this season having score seven goals and assists a further three in 19 games in the Netherlands and is now a key part of the team.

Feyenoord are very happy with his quality in recent games, though manager Arne Slot has previously claimed that he is far from the finished product and has work to do on his positioning.

Minteh himself is clearly very happy at the club and would be more than happy spending another season there on loan should the opportunity present itself in the summer.

On a possible loan deal, Minteh said: “If I have the chance to stay here, I will. Feyenoord is a fantastic club.”

Minteh could be in Eddie Howe’s plans next year

Given that Eddie Howe is keen to bring in a new right-winger to Newcastle in the summer, he could look to utilise Minteh as another option alongside Miguel Almiron instead of spending money on a new player.

Almiron hasn’t been able to hit the same run of form that he showed last season as he really has struggled in the final third and Newcastle supporters are getting more and more frustrated with his attacking output.

That’s not to suggest that Minteh will be able to immediately solve all of Newcastle’s problems going forwards, but Howe will definitely want to take a look at the 19-year-old for the new season.

Long term things look bright for the Gambian international but another season on loan at a top European club would also certainly not do him any harm.
