It looks like former Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll’s chances of moving to Wolves are now off.
The 33-year-old was linked with a shock return to the Premier League the other day. It was claimed by the Telegraph that Wolves were considering a move for the free agent.
That came after they hit problems in their pursuit of Diego Costa. Bruno Lage is looking for a striker after new signing Sasa Kalajdzic picked up a serious injury on his debut.

Wolves turned to the free agent market, and lined up a deal for Costa. However, a work permit problem led to concerns the deal wouldn’t be done.
A list of alternatives was drawn up, and it included Newcastle’s old number nine Carroll. However, the prospect of him returning to the Premier League now suddenly feels unlikely.
Diego Costa development should end talk of Andy Carroll to Wolves

Carroll potentially joining Wolves was dependent on the Costa situation.
Lage’s side had launched an appeal to try and overturn the work permit decision, and that has proven to be successful according to Fabrizio Romano.
The former Chelsea striker will now have a medical with Wolves before potentially signing a one-year deal at Molineux.
It appears that it all depends on the medical. If Costa passes that, he will certainly become a Wolves player. And in turn, it will mean Carroll won’t be returning to the Premier League.

That will be disappointing for the former Toon hero, who has been without a club since the end of last season. He was released by West Brom, meaning Steve Bruce got rid of him two years in a row.
It would have been a surprise to see him back in the top flight, but it merely summed up Wolves’ desperation for a striker.
Instead, another Championship move surely beckons for Carroll. However, he will no doubt be concerned that the season has already started and he hasn’t found a new club.
