Joe Willock believes new signing Alexander Isak has ‘everything’ he needs to become a star at St James’ Park.
The 22-year-old joined the Magpies last week, arriving for a club record fee from Real Sociedad. He cost a whopping £59million, in a deal that came completely out of the blue.
Newcastle have needed a forward all summer, and now they’ve got one. Not only that, but they’ve got a player who could go on to become top class in black and white.
Isak has a lot of potential, and is already impressing his Newcastle teammates in training. That’s according to Willock, who was asked about the Swede in an interview.
Willock on Isak
The Toon midfielder spoke to NUFC TV before the trip to Liverpool, and was asked about how Isak is settling in at his new club.
“He’s showed a lot of quality in the small amount of sessions he’s had,” Willock said.
“He’s shown his ability to finish and link up play. We’re all excited to play with him and I’m sure he’s excited to put on a Newcastle shirt.
“He’s young. He’s got everything to be one of the best strikers around. He just has to stay humble and produce when he’s on the pitch. He can go as far as he wants to.”
Hopefully Isak succeeds at Newcastle
Willock’s early assessment of Isak is certainly promising. It’s good to hear he’s already impressing, despite having limited time on the training ground.
The Sweden international watched from the stands against Wolves on Sunday, and it remains unclear as to whether or not he will be able to feature against Liverpool.
It’s frustrating that Isak’s debut has been delayed, but good things come to those who wait. He has the potential to become a top level forward, and it will be great news for Newcastle if he reaches that level for us.
He didn’t have a brilliant season last time out, but has been tipped for the top for a long time. Hopefully he can hit the ground running in a Newcastle shirt when he’s eventually allowed to play.
The Magpies are building a really strong team. Our big signings (Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Sven Botman) are all young enough that they can be with Newcastle for a long time. The new owners are building an incredibly strong spine, laying the foundations for a bright future.
We have players who can become the best in their position with the right coaching and environment. And Eddie Howe has absolutely proven that he is the right coach.
Willock thinks Isak can go as far as he wants in the game, and hopefully he wants to become one of the world’s best at St James’ Park.
