Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react after they discovered that Everton’s James Rodriguez would miss Sunday’s clash with the Magpies at St James’ Park.

The Colombia international is suffering with an injury, and Carlo Ancelotti revealed earlier today that his playmaker would miss the trip to Tyneside.

As quoted by Sky Sports, the ex-Chelsea boss said: ‘He has played all the [Premier League] games, he had a little problem so he needs to rest for this game and he will be available for the next game.’

Now, this news should come as a huge boost to the Magpies, given the former Real Madrid man’s world-class qualities.

Since swapping the Santiago Bernabeu for Goodison Park in the summer, Rodriguez has scored three goals and recorded three assists in six Premier League appearances – averaging a goal involvement every game.

The 29-year-old has also netted a goal in the Carabao Cup.

WhoScored shows that the attacking midfielder averages an array of impressive figures. Rodriguez registers 2.3 shots per game, along with 2.8 key passes and 2.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League.

Ancelotti still has plenty of dangermen who can harm Newcastle, such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin, but Rodriguez’s absence is a huge boost to Steve Bruce.
