Roy Keane has criticised one Newcastle United player for his most recent performances in the last-minute defeat to Manchester City.
Newcastle were so close to holding on to what would have been a big point against the treble winners, but a lapse in concentration right at the end cost them the game.
Speaking on Stick to Football, Keane suggested that Kieran Trippier should be ‘disappointed’ with how he defender for City’s winning goal.
Keane says Trippier is to blame for Newcastle’s defeat
Trippier has had a very tough last few weeks after making some huge individual errors that have ultimately cost Newcastle big points in the Premier League and a place in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.
It had certainly knocked the confidence of the England international who looked to be a shadow of his former self despite having a really good start to the season.
Against Sunderland, however, the 33-year-old looked to be back to his best as Newcastle dominated the game from start to finish, although it was against lower league opposition so it is to be expected.
But in the game against City, while he had not made any mistakes prior to this, his defending in the final moments meant Oscar Bobb was able to drift past him and into the box before slotting it into the net after some brilliant footwork.
On the podcast, Ian Wright said: “Incredible goal by the way, but we still.. Kevin de Bruyne’s pass.”
Keane added: “Trippier will be disappointed with that though.”

Newcastle hoping Trippier gets back to his best
Not only has Trippier been a great player for Newcastle since signing for £12m two years ago, he has also been a key figure in the dressing room and a leader on the pitch organising the defence and the team.
That means when the former Tottenham and Burnley man suffers a period out of form, the whole team suffers for it and it can really knocks the confidence of some, especially younger players who look up to him.
That’s not to say Trippier should be dropped from the team, but it may give someone like Tino Livramento more of a chance to impress down the right if Eddie Howe does ever choose to rotate.
But if Trippier can get back to his best in the second half of the season, it would give Newcastle a strong chance of pushing again for Europe, even if Champions League is now out of reach.
