Why the Newcastle squad are devastated about what has happened to 31-year-old player

Newcastle United have suffered so many long-term injuries, but they may have just suffered their worst one yet.

There has been a real injury crisis on Tyneside this season, and it got even worse during the Magpies’ 1-0 win over Manchester United on Saturday.

As Nick Pope dived to save a Sergio Reguilon volley, he managed to dislocate his shoulder. It was a dive he will have done a million times and not hurt himself, but this time he did and he is now set to miss up to five months of football. And the frustrating this is that he didn’t need to dive at all, as Fabian Schar cleared away the danger!

There is hope that his season might not be over, but for now it looks like Martin Dubravka will be in goal for the foreseeable future.

He is more than capable of filling the void left by Pope, but that does not mean the Newcastle squad are any less gutted about what has happened to the 31-year-old.

Newcastle devastated to lose Nick Pope

According to iNews, the Newcastle squad are devastated about the news that Pope is going to be out for such a long period of time.

They add that he is a very popular member of the dressing room.

Not only are Newcastle losing a great player but they are also losing a great character. That is why it is such a blow that Pope is going to be missing for so long.

He has been in spectacular form as of late. There was an outrageous save during the win over Chelsea, while his display away to PSG was one of the best of his career.

But now it will be Martin Dubravka in between the sticks, with Eddie Howe set to give the Slovakian a chance to prove he is up to the task. If not, Newcastle do have the option of dipping into the transfer market with January right around the corner.
