Newcastle United will be without Bruno Guimaraes against Arsenal on Tuesday night.

The Newcastle United captain is suspended for the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg at the Emirates Stadium, after being booked in the quarter-final win over Brentford.

It will be the first time this season that Bruno Guimaraes is unavailable. He has appeared in all 24 of Newcastle United’s games so far, scoring one and providing six assists.

It is a major blow to lose such an important player for such a crucial game, at a time when Eddie Howe’s midfield three have been at the top of their game.

But the trio of Bruno, Sandro Tonali and Joelinton will be broken up on Tuesday night, with the Magpies’ number 39 set to sit out the trip to North London.

Which Newcastle midfielder will replace Bruno Guimaraes against Arsenal

Eddie Howe will be forced to make a change to his midfield, with Sean Longstaff and Joe Willock the leading candidates to play instead of Bruno.

According to the i Paper, it is Sean Longstaff who is ‘primed’ to take Bruno’s place in the Newcastle midfield against Arsenal.

It is a huge opportunity for the local lad, who has not started since the 4-2 defeat away to Brentford.

He has been a peripheral figure in recent weeks, with Longstaff an unused substitute against Aston Villa and Manchester United. The 27-year-old did feature against Tottenham, replacing Jacob Murphy in the 86th minute.

Newcastle’s other suspension concern vs Arsenal

Bruno Guimaraes is not the only Toon player who is suspended for the first leg against Arsenal on Tuesday night.

The Magpies will be without Fabian Schar at the Emirates Stadium, just like they were at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.

Sven Botman replaced Schar against Spurs and played very well, on what was his first senior appearance since March 2024 after an ACL injury.

Howe was delighted with Botman’s performance, but it remains to be seen if he will start again so soon after his comeback.

If it is decided that Botman cannot start again, Lloyd Kelly will come into the starting XI.
