Newcastle United’s talisman Allan Saint-Maximin has been nominated for the Premier League’s EA Sports player of the month award for September.

The 24-year-old has been at the heart of everything positive that has come from Steve Bruce’s side this season.

During September, Saint-Maximin scored against Leeds and provided two assists against Manchester United and Watford.

The former Nice man now has two goals and three assists from six Premier League games. The only game that Saint-Maximin didn’t register a goal or an assist in was the 2-0 defeat against Aston Villa which was the second game of the season.

Saint-Maximin has had a direct hand in five of the Magpies’ seven Premier League goals.

Our mercurial forward will be going up against five other players for the monthly gong – Manchester City’s Joao Cancelo, Liverpool’s Mo Salah, Watford’s Ismaila Sarr, Antonio Rudiger of Chelsea and a certain five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo has scored three goals in three games since making an emotional return to Old Trafford.

The 36-year-old started life back at the Theatre of Dreams with two goals on his second debut against the Magpies.

He then backed that up with a crucial equaliser at the London Stadium in the 2-1 win against West Ham.

Ronaldo’s compatriot Cancelo hasn’t conceded a goal during September and got the crucial assist in City’s 1-0 win against Chelsea.

Similar to Ronaldo, Salah has three goals during September. His last, which came against Brentford, took him to 100 Premier League goals for Liverpool.

Sarr also has three goals during September and they have come in his last two games with two against Norwich City and the equaliser against Newcastle at the weekend. Rudiger scored in Chelsea’s 3-0 win away to Tottenham, but couldn’t shut out Manchester City.

However, Saint-Maximin stands above all the nominees in an area that even Ronaldo and Salah cannot compete with.

He’s the only player to register a goalscoring contribution in every game he has played this month. Surely that should make him a worthy favourite for the award.
