Jamaal Lascelles is a professional footballer who plays for Newcastle United.

Newcastle United have changed an awful lot since the PIF bought the club in 2021, to the point where the squad is nearly unrecognisable.

However, while there will soon come a day when no players from before the takeover remain at the club, we’re not quite there yet and Jamaal Lascelles is one of the last vestiges of a long-gone era.

Having joined the club in 2014, Lascelles is Newcastle’s longest-serving player by far and, though his time as captain has come to an end, he still has more to give to the club.

Here’s all you need to know about him.

How much did Newcastle United pay for Jamaal Lascelles?

Considering the years and games they have got from the quality defender, Newcastle signed Lascelles for an absolute steal at £3.5m.

Lascelles arrived from Nottingham Forest in the summer of 2014 and was actually a part of a rare double deal as Karl Darlow was also signed for a combined fee of £7m.

Jamaal Lascelles contract at Newcastle United

It appeared that Lascelles’ tenure at St. James’ Park would come to an end in the summer of 2025, as his contract was coming to an end after he failed to play a single minute of the season due to injury.

However, it emerged that an extension clause in his deal had been quietly triggered, which means his contract now expires in 2026 instead.

How old is Jamaal Lascelles?

Lascelles was born on November 11, 1993, in Derby, England. Though it feels like he has been in the game so absolutely ages, having been at Newcastle alone for 11 years, he is still just 31 years old.

Though he has struggled with injuries, Lascelles could still have plenty left to give to the Toon and the game in general.

Jamaal Lascelles injury history

Sadly for Lascelles, he has suffered a lot of injuries throughout his career, especially in the last five years, which has reduced the number of games he could have added to his tally.

The ACL tear he suffered in March 2024 was the most serious and saw him miss 14 months of action.

In total, Lascelles has suffered 18 different injuries throughout his time at Newcastle, which have seen him miss 120 games.

However, he is now back to fitness and is back playing again for the club.
