Some Newcastle fans on Twitter are remarkably siding with Miguel Almiron after he decided to stay in Paraguay rather than returning to the club ahead of the Magpies’ game against Chelsea.
The attacking midfielder had reportedly been instructed to return to Tyneside after a yellow card ruled him out of Paraguay’s final international game of this period, but he decided to stay in South America to support his country.
Almiron’s actions could easily be seen as unprofessional, and to be honest, him staying in Paraguay puts Newcastle at a disadvantage when trying to get anything against Chelsea this weekend, but despite this, fans have actually sided with him.
There are a few elements as to why Newcastle fans have sided with Almiron.
Some feel sorry for him because he’s been played out of position and left on the bench quite often this season, while others believe that he’s well within his rights to stay as far away from Steve Bruce as possible.
We’re sure that Bruce and the higher-ups at St James’ Park have their own views on this stunt from Almiron, but we reportedly won’t hear what the manager has to say on the matter until Friday.
Interestingly, this comes just days after Almiron’s agent said that he would have left Newcastle this summer if the global pandemic hadn’t halted his move.
It will be interesting to watch see happens with the former Atlanta United man going forward.

We shouldn’t be surprised- either not played or played out of position for his club

Probably enjoys it more than training under Bruce. Who can blame him? #NUFC https://t.co/gOtzG65cPJ

To be fair if I was managed out of Steve Bruce I wouldn’t have came back!#NUFC https://t.co/fqaEZdZZrs

Hmmm. He can either stay and support his team mates or come home early to be told he’ll be benched for Jeff Hendrick again. What a dilemma https://t.co/KKEivo5zVC

I stop with them too if it meant not coming back to suffer Bruce
