Though the Euro 2024 final between Spain and England needs little added intrigue, there is something of a Newcastle United theme running throughout, should you look hard enough of course.
Indeed, Spain could feasibly play three former Newcastle players in Mikel Merino, Joselu and Ayoze Perez, albeit that feels incredibly unlikely.
The same can be said for current Toon star Anthony Gordon and England too, with the forward having only been handed a few minutes by Gareth Southgate thus far.
Newcastle hero Kieran Trippier, however, is in a very different position.
Despite some frustrations about not being a natural left-back, the 33-year-old has consistently been backed by Southgate and has even started the last two games despite the recent return of Luke Shaw.
Now, it seems Trippier is in for one of the biggest nights of his career.
England Euro 2024 team news vs Spain is good news for Kieran Trippier
That’s because, according to The Sun, Trippier is set to keep his place at left-back for the ultimate showdown in Berlin.
They suggest Southgate will ignore calls to start Shaw from the off and will instead keep Trippier as a left-back up against a fearsome Spanish frontline in Nico Williams, Alvaro Morata and teenage sensation Lamine Yamal.
It is thought that Trippier came off against the Netherlands due to a precaution more than anything and that he’s fully fit to start.

Kieran Trippier may never play for Newcastle as a European champion
England of course have to win it first but it’s disappointing to imagine Trippier never actually representing Newcastle as a European champion, should they get the victory.
Indeed, there are claims that it’s increasingly likely the veteran right-back will leave St James’ Park this summer, having been linked away in January too.
If this is his last involvement in English football, it would be some way to go out…
