Whether Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon and Tino Livramento will start for England against Finland

Three Newcastle United players are in the England squad to face Finland in the Nations League tonight.

After beating Republic of Ireland 2-0 on Saturday, Lee Carsley is going in search of back-to-back wins as interim England manager.

His first win was partially inspired by Anthony Gordon, who started on the left of attack in Dublin.

Gordon was outstanding against Republic of Ireland, and he really should have ended the night with his first ever England goal. But it was a great display from the 23-year-old, and Carsley was delighted with Gordon’s performance.

Now the England boss must decide whether to start Gordon again, while he also has two other Newcastle United players at his disposal.

Which Newcastle United players will start for England against Finland

However, it looks like only one will start the Nations League game against Finland at Wembley.

According to the Athletic, Gordon is expected to start out wide for England once again, joining Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka in attack.

However, the Athletic note that there will be no space in the starting XI for Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento.

They report that Rico Lewis is likely to come into the team at left-back, while Trent Alexander-Arnold will continue down the right.

There is no mention of who will start in goal for England, but it feels likely that Jordan Pickford will retain his place in the side. That would mean that Nick Pope is on the bench, just like he was against Republic of Ireland on Saturday.

More minutes is what Gordon and Newcastle need

While it is a shame that Livramento is not going to be involved from the start against Finland, it is great to see that Gordon is on course to retain his place in the side.

He was outstanding against Republic of Ireland, producing arguably his best performance of the season so far. It has been a slow start for the speedster in a Newcastle United shirt, with Eddie Howe admitting that Gordon is not quite fit enough just yet.

That is down to an interrupted summer, with Gordon not enjoying a proper pre-season. He is still getting his sharpness back, and will massively benefit from playing for England again on Tuesday night.

Hopefully Gordon gets through the game unscathed, and another bright Three Lions performance should fill him with confidence ahead of Newcastle’s clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

Howe’s side head to Molineux this weekend, with Chris Kavanagh set to referee Wolves vs Newcastle.
