Two Newcastle United players are hoping to be included in England’s Euro 2024 squad, as the Three Lions training kicks off today.

After Gareth Southgate announced his provisional squad following the conclusion of the Premier League season, his players are now set to begin training in Middlesbrough on Wednesday 29th May ahead of Monday’s friendly against Bosnia And Herzegovina at St James’ Park.

Two Newcastle players could potentially be involved, with Anthony Gordon and Kieran Trippier named in Southgate’s provisional list of 33 players. They both look like strong candidates to make the final 26, with Trippier an experienced player who can do a job at left-back and Gordon on the back of the best season of his career.

But Gordon is also coming off the back of an injury, having missed Newcastle’s last game of the season and subsequent trip to Australia. However, it looks like he is over that injury, with the Daily Mail reporting that he has arrived ahead of training kicking off.

That is excellent news, as Gordon looks to compete in his first major international tournament as a senior player.

And it looks like he is set to start training alongside his Toon teammate Trippier, who the Daily Mail believe is also due to be involved on Wednesday as preparations begin for Euro 2024.

When the England squad was announced, it was stated that Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur players would join the group at a later date due to their post-season commitments. However, it looks like Trippier is going to be perfectly on time, despite travelling to the other side of the world and back.

That is a quick turnaround for the 33-year-old, who was there for the entirety of Newcastle United’s trip to Australia.

Not much rest for Kieran Trippier after Australia trip with Newcastle

Ahead of the Magpies going down under, Trippier admitted that the post-season friendlies were ‘not ideal’, but he was still there for the duration of the trip.

However, he did not feature much. The defender only played about half an hour of the game against Tottenham Hotspur before being substituted, leading to fears that he had picked up an injury. This went viral on social media, as England fans berated the two Premier League sides competing in a pointless friendly.

In truth, Trippier was not injured, nor had he shown any sign of injury. Eddie Howe confirmed that the right-back was fine, and he remained in Australia while the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Miguel Almiron went home ahead of their international commitments.

He spent the 8-0 defeat to the A-League All Stars as an unused substitute, with Howe unwilling to use any of his senior outfield players. The squad then flew back home, with Trippier now ready to start England training less than a week later.

It is an incredibly quick turnaround for the Newcastle star, who could be a key player for Southgate in Germany. That is because Trippier is likely to be needed at left-back, with England struggling for options in that position.
