Sandro Tonali is a man in the headlines.

Having scored on his Newcastle debut, Tonali has had the likes of Jamie Redknapp purring.

After so many jibes about how unhappy the midfielder supposedly looked after leaving AC Milan for the Magpies, a brilliant debut against Aston Villa was the perfect way to respond.

Fewer than ten minutes into the game, he’d bagged his first goal.

The Italy international could have scored a second not long after and also provided the pre-assist for Alexander Isak’s first goal in what turned out to be a 5-1 win.

A brilliant start to his career on Tyneside, those who suggested he was unhappy with life in Newcastle have been left with egg of their faces.

Now, some more insight has emerged.

What Sandro Tonali is doing behind the scenes at Newcastle

Indeed, The Athletic have rubbished any suggestion Tonali did not want to be at Newcastle.

In fact, they add that the Italian is taking daily English lessons behind the scenes and a bid to “immerse” himself in the squad.

Hardly the sign of someone who wants to get back to Italy as soon as humanly possible…

Tonali is adapting to life at Newcastle very well

Were Tonali to have been upset about leaving Milan, there should be no great offence taken.

Leaving the club you supported as a boy for a new team in a new country is a huge life change for someone reasonably young.

That would not mean Tonali would be miserable in England, it would be more of a reflection on how much life in Milan meant to him.

At only 23 and already looking to immerse himself in Newcastle, the early signs are hugely promising.

Though not to get too carried away, more performances like his first would surely keep him at the club for a long time to come.

After such a major life change, that was a perfect start.
