It has not been the easiest season for Newcastle United.
While there have been huge moments for Eddie Howe and his side, Newcastle have struggled for consistency for much of the season.
Still, there are mitigating factors to consider, of course.
Indeed, Howe is believed to be pointing towards all manner of them behind the scenes, ranging from recruitment issues during last summer’s transfer window as well as the seemingly constant injury crisis this season has brought.
However, despite links with other managers, Howe is believed to retain the support of the PIF ownership for now.

According to The Times, sources close to the Newcastle owners are stressing that patience in regards to their project is required.
They are said to have taken the fact that Champions League participation would place a great strain on Howe’s squad into account.
In fact, phase one of the Saudi Arabian era was believed to have been survival, which was achieved of course. Phase two is said to have been viewed as merely consolidation, meaning Howe is in fact ahead of schedule given last season’s success.

The injury crisis, Sandro Tonali’s ban, a freak injury to Harvey Barnes and maddeningly difficult cup draws have made this season difficult to judge. Could any other manager deal with the issues Howe has had to contend with better than he has done? Perhaps but it is impossible to definitively say that.
Given all those issues, it’s only right Howe is afforded time to turn things around.
Start next season badly, however, and the pressure really will be on. Newcastle have had a difficult year but there does need to be improvement at some point.
It’s good to see Howe backed. Now, it’s up to him.
