Newcastle United have finished the 2020/21 season with a victory to cap off a fantastic end to the campaign.

The Magpies ran out 2-0 winners over relegated Fulham, with Joe Willock scoring in his seventh straight game and equalling Alan Shearer’s club record.

Fabian Schar also got on the scoresheet from the penalty spot on his return from suspension.

Victory at Craven Cottage, and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ defeat to Manchester United, mean Newcastle have actually climbed up to 12th in the table.

They have the same goal difference as Wolves, but finish above them due to having scored more goals.

Before a ball was kicked today, Newcastle could have finished as low as 17th, which would have netted them £13.6 million (via Telegraph).

Moving up to 12th means the Magpies will receive £30.6 million, which could potentially be huge for the club in terms of transfers this summer.

Unlikely purple patch could be colossal

Huge credit has to go the way of the staff and the players for turning things around.

The 3-0 defeat to Brighton in March was such a low point for everyone connected with the club, and it looked like a relegation battle was inevitable.

But everyone has knuckled down, and £30 million coming into the club has the potential to make a real difference to the squad – especially since Joe Willock likely will not come cheap after his stunning loan spell.
