What Newcastle United insiders are now saying about Lewis Hall this season

It’s been a very difficult season for Lewis Hall who has rarely featured for Newcastle United in the last couple of months.

Hall was brought in from Chelsea as an exciting young talent who can play as a left-back or further up the pitch, but his lack of minutes has raised questions over why he was signed in the first place.

A new report from iNews claims that those within Newcastle still view Hall as a long-term investment and that there is no concern from within as they know he will get his chance in the future.

Hall is still a work in progress at Newcastle

The teenager was initially brought in on loan, though it’s believed that it will be made permanent in the summer as the conditions were very much expected to be met this season.

Newcastle think very highly of him and clearly envision him as being part of the first-team squad in the not too distant future, but he may not be the immediate answer to their left-back problems.

Hall has made just 23 first-team appearances between both Chelsea and Newcastle so still has an awful lot to learn, but being in and around Newcastle’s starters will surely be beneficial to the young man.

What’s frustrated supporters the most is that while Dan Burn has been struggling down the left as of late, Hall hasn’t even been considered as an alternative option for Eddie Howe who has shown a lot of loyalty to the 31-year-old.

Hall could have a much bigger role next season

With a full pre-season under his belt and a year of being in and around the first team, Hall could be in line for a much more integral role for Newcastle next season.

Burn will be another year older and very likely won’t be the long-term option down the left side of the defence, meaning there is a spot open for someone to step up or be brought in.

For the moment, it is Tino Livramento who is being brought on whenever Burn is struggling as the former Southampton man already has a full season of Premier League experience and is a couple of years older.

However, with Livramento more suited to playing down the right it could be that he will eventually replace Kieran Trippier in the long-term, so Hall may have a more clear shot at being Howe’s starting left-back option.
