Newcastle United have suffered an unexpected number of injury problems this season and have been forced to change a few things to solve it.
For a number of games during this campaign the number of injuries has been into double figures, resulting in more and more fatigue for those players who had managed to stay fit.
A new report from The Mirror has revealed that Newcastle have been tweaking their physiotherapy unit while also forensically examining the way that they have been training to solve this injury crisis.
Injury problems have taken their toll on Newcastle
Newcastle currently sit ninth in the Premier League and have been knocked out of both the Champions League and Carabao Cup, though Eddie Howe does not want to use that as an excuse.
However, it’s certainly taken its toll on the squad both mentally and physically in a season where a lot of these players are having to play and travel a lot more than they are used to.
It’s not that anyone is truly complaining about having to play in Europe which has been a privilege this season, but it’s been about understanding how much of a challenge it is and using it as experience for the future.
Next year, should the club manage to secure another European finish, they will at least know what to expect with the added fixtures and can perhaps plan a little bit better, though this amount of injuries would be completely unprecedented for anyone.

Newcastle need to turn things around in 2024
With no Europe to deal with, Newcastle have to return to the great form that they showed last season which got them in the position to qualify for the Champions League in the first place.
It probably couldn’t have been a more difficult start to the year with Liverpool, Manchester City and Aston Villa all coming up next month, as well as an FA Cup tie against Sunderland.
That said, it gets the toughest fixtures out o the way early and, should they come away with a decent result, will set the team up nicely to go and attack the second half of the season.
The main thing for Howe will be trying to keep his players fit and ready and hopefully seeing more from the likes of Harvey Barnes who has hardly had a chance to impress since signing from Leicester in the summer.
