Newcastle United are very much alive in the Champions League race.

Indeed, Premier League clubs could well be afforded five spots for next season’s Champions League and Newcastle United are in the mix.

Newcastle have taken six points off Forest this season and have also beat them in the Carabao Cup, albeit that was by way of a penalty shootout.

Following their defeat, Newcastle fans are feeling confident about catching them in the Premier League table.

Newcastle fans make new Champions League prediction after Nottingham Forest lose

Morgan Rogers and Donyell Malen both scored first-half goals to claim a win for Unai Emery’s side, with Jota Silva’s response after the break not enough for Forest.

On social media platform X, the result led a number of Newcastle fans to start thinking they could catch the Tricky Trees.

“Aiming for 3rd so Forest losing is good in one way. Win the games in hand and we catch right up with them and pull clear of Villa too”, wrote another fan.

One supporter added: “I’ll stick with what I’ve said all along, we’ll finish above both Chelsea & Forest but below City.”

“We finish 3rd by the way. Will definitely catch forest. Villa only team I’m worried about but think champions league will knock their form,” predicted an optimistic fan.

“I maintain this was the best result for #NUFC. Puts Forest well within our sights now. Winnable games coming up, by the end of the Palace game we could potentially be 1 point behind them. All ifs and buts but absolutely massive,” was another claim.

Another said: “Very good result for us that, win our two very winnable games in hand and we are 1 point behind Forest.”

“Cracking scoreline so far for Newcastle with 2 games in hand over Nottingham Forest and the easier run in, I fancy us to finish top 4,” added another happy fan.

Newcastle’s potential earnings in the Champions League

Not only would qualifying for the Champions League surely help the club keep key stars such as Tonali, Alexander Isak, Bruno Guimaraes and Anthony Gordon going forward, it’d also help bring in cash to boost Howe’s squad.

It has been a relatively fallow period in terms of incomings of late, though Newcastle now believe they can start spending money again.

Reaching Europe’s elite club competition will raise more money, too.

Newcastle would earn £17million by qualifying for the Champions League, while a potential but admittedly unlikely win of the competition would see them rake in as much as £131million.
