Newcastle United recorded a big win over Brighton on Thursday to inch ever closer to a return to the Champions League.
Billed as a cup final of sorts for Eddie Howe’s side, Newcastle came through with flying colours.
The Magpies put Brighton to the sword in a rampant 4-1 win at St James’ Park, a result that leaves them needing just one win from their final two games to secure the top four.

While he did not manage to get on the scoresheet, Miguel Almiron stood out during the win.
Typically industrious, the 29-year-old was involved in something of a running battle with international teammate Julio Enciso.
Indeed, the pair were actually involved in a flashpoint as the game took on a fiery edge towards the closing stages.
Almiron was unhappy with a challenge from his international teammate and the two exchanged heated words and a couple of pushes to boot.
Almiron and Enciso make up after the full-time whistle
Still, such is the friendship between the pair it would seem, the Paraguayans made up after the full-time whistle.
Almiron had played a key role in helping Newcastle score two late goals, playing a brilliant ball to Callum Wilson for the third to wrap up the win.
In good spirits after that, the compatriots could be seen shaking hands and putting their dispute behind them.
Newcastle in dreamland
Howe’s side now only need to beat Leicester to make it back to Europe’s top table.
While there can be little in the way of guarantees at Premier League level, the Foxes look bound for the Championship and the fact it will be Newcastle’s final home game of this remarkable campaign is a major bonus.

So good on home soil all season, this really is dreamland territory for the club.
Almiron’s goals might have dried up of late but his contribution in such a big game is arguably just as important.
