Newcastle United secured Champions League football for next season with a 0-0 draw with relegation-threatened Leicester last night and Joelinton couldn’t contain his excitement.

Newcastle played out a 0-0 draw with Leicester at St James’ Park on Monday night knowing that a point would put them out of reach of Liverpool in the race for the top four.

It was a game that Newcastle should have won both on paper and on the night, but despite having 23 shots on goal, striking the woodwork three times and Leicester clearing the ball off the line on at least one occasion, the Magpies just couldn’t get a goal that would have elevated the game.

Joelinton “singing” the Champions League theme will become a meme

It was match that was not at all fitting of the occasion but when that full-time whistle blew, the previous 90 minutes was completely forgotten and the celebrations started. Newcastle had done it.

Players did their customary lap of honour dipping in and out to give interviews with various media outlets and as Dan Burn stopped to talk with NUFC TV he was brilliantly interrupted by Joelinton singing the Champions League theme.

I don’t think we have to worry about Joelinton hanging up his boots to pursue a life in singing any time soon, but Dan Burn definitely enjoyed it, and I’m sure it’s something we’ll see many, many times in the future.

Newcastle’s season isn’t done with one game left, but does it matter?

It was absolutely hilarious. And it’s great to see just how much this accomplishment means to everyone at the club and it was fully deserved after an amazing season where we consistently proved our doubters wrong.

We still have Chelsea to face this season at Stamford Bridge before the lads can truly celebrate, but I’m sure Eddie Howe wouldn’t have minded them letting their hair down just this once – who knows, he may have even joined in.

Manchester United could still overtake us in the league, but honestly, who cares? Nobody had us getting top four this season and if fourth is where we end up, then we have still massively overachieved. Long may that continue.
