There is concern that Fabian Schar could be injured for Newcastle United’s game against Everton on Thursday night.
Schar limped off during Newcastle‘s 6-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur, being replaced by captain Jamaal Lascelles late in the second half.
The Switzerland international went down with a hamstring problem late in the game, but did try to carry on. However, he was then taken off so Lascelles could play the final 15 minutes.
It had no impact on the result on Sunday, but with fixtures coming thick and fast, it will be a quick turnaround to get him fit for Thursday night’s match at Goodison Park.
Eddie Howe takes his team to Merseyside to face Everton, where pundit Chris Sutton believes they will win once again. However, Paul Merson is expecting a draw.

The result might depend on whether or not Schar is fit to start, and the Athletic’s Chris Waugh has provided an update on the 31-year-old’s status.
Fabian Schar is hoping he isn’t injured for Thursday’s game
Speaking on the latest episode of Pod On The Tyne, Waugh was asked whether or not Schar will be fit for the Everton game on Thursday.
“I asked Schar as he walked through the mixed zone and he just replied with ‘I hope so’,” he said.
So at the moment it is hope rather than expectation. Howe will likely err on the side of caution, especially with another game coming on Sunday.

If he is not fully fit, it could force the Toon boss to make a rare change to his starting lineup. That could present an opportunity to Lascelles, who has only started two Premier League games all season. Sadly, they were both defeats, with Lascelles starting in the losses away to Liverpool and Manchester City.
But Howe will have faith in his captain if he does come into the side. The other possibility would be bringing in Matt Targett and pushing Dan Burn into the middle. However, that would mean we would have two left-footed centre-backs playing.
Howe has always preferred to have a left-footer and a right-footer, which is why Lascelles is the most likely to come in if Schar is not fit.
But hopefully he will be, and perhaps we can see him produce another assist like the one he provided for Joelinton against Tottenham on Sunday.
