What Ant and Dec could be heard saying to Newcastle United fans immediately after they got off the bus parade

Newcastle United finally got to celebrate in style after winning the Carabao Cup earlier this month.

While the scenes of relief and jubilation in equal measure were fantastic to watch at Wembley after Newcastle United won the Carabao Cup final, it all ended on a fairly underwhelming note.

Indeed, such is the demanding nature of the football calendar for the players these days, many of Eddie Howe’s squad had to jet off on international duty not long after lifting the Carabao Cup at the national home of football.

Saturday, however, brought a party like few others.

Hundreds of thousands of supporters lined the streets of the city to celebrate the club ending a 70 year-wait for a major domestic honour.

Howe was shocked to see supporters hanging off lampposts just to get a better view of the open top bus parade, which made its way from St James’ Park to the Town Moor.

Famous supporters Ant and Dec were part of the proceedings and even the experienced TV presenters were shocked.

Ant and Dec make revealing comment after Newcastle United’s open top bus parade

Geordie royalty Ant and Dec were mobbed by Newcastle fans before they even made it into the stadium, which offers some insight into just how wild the atmosphere was on the day.

The pair, of course, have presented some of the biggest shows on TV but even they appeared shocked at just how big an occasion the Newcastle United celebrations were.

They were spotted leaving the initial parade, both talking of how much they enjoyed it.

“That was amazing,” said Ant McPartlin.

“That was one of the greatest things I’ve ever done in my life.”

Ant and Dec aim good-natured dig at Liverpool star Alexis Mac Allister during Newcastle United’s Carabao Cup final celebrations

It was quite the day in the city, ending in yet more celebrations on stage at the Town Moor.

In fact, Ant and Dec aimed a slight dig at Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, who of course had the rather unfortunate job of marking big Dan Burn from set-pieces during the Wembley show piece.

Declan Donnelly joked he may as well have been making Burn, such was the difference in height between the two former Brighton players.

While not quite as brutal as the dig Jack Grealish bizarrely aimed at Miguel Almiron during Manchester City’s celebrations a few years ago, it certainly drew a few laughs from the crowd.
