There are some players who make a massive impact during their time at Newcastle United.

While things didn’t quite work out as planned for Allan Saint-Maximin under Eddie Howe, the Frenchman delighted for much of his time as a Newcastle player.

A popular figure amongst the supporters for his often-magical work during an otherwise bleak period for the club and an active presence on social media too, the winger was certainly quite the character.

The 26-year-old will be missed. Joe Willock has already vowed to play with him again and, whether or not Saint-Maximin was fitted to life under Howe, the squad just doesn’t have the kind of maverick he was anymore.

Such was his love for the club, it seems Saint-Maximin is still contributing.

Despite having joined Al-Ahli, the former Nice winger is still contributing to the city of Newcastle.

The Chronicle relay a tweet from a local foodbank, who have confirmed the Frenchman will keep supporting their cause.

“A special player & special person. Allan Saint-Maximin will be missed at @NUFC on & off the pitch,” NUFC Fans Food Bank tweeted.

“He messaged to help two days after signing for Newcastle visited @NCLFoodBank soon after & made everyone’s day, raised awareness & donated money. Thanks and good luck for the future Allan.”

What a hero

To do that despite only being at the club for a few years really underlines the measure of the man.

Saint-Maximin had an impact on Newcastle and, clearly, the city had an impact on the player too.

A generous offer during some difficult times in life goes to show what kind of character Newcastle had. Though it’s sad things have not worked out, it’s obvious that things aren’t ending on a sour note.

Thanks for everything, Allan.
