West Ham striker Michail Antonio has made a controversial claim about Newcastle United that is sure to rile the fans.
Newcastle are currently doing well domestically and are on course to record a second successive European finish in the Premier League.
Antonio spoke on The Footballer’s Podcast, which he records with Callum Wilson, to claim that Newcastle deserve to suffer a blip in form after a controversial win over Arsenal.
Antonio claims Newcastle goal should not have stood vs Arsenal
Anthony Gordon‘s winner against Arsenal has caused some outrage on social media in the last few days. Many believe the goal should not have stood and Arsenal themselves even released a club statement to express their dissatisfaction with the referee’s decisions.
Antonio revealed on the podcast that he agrees that it was a poor decision and that Newcastle have to suffer some form of “karma” because of it.
Though he appreciated that the Magpies have been playing some excellent football, the 33-year-old doesn’t think this kind of form can last.
On the podcast, Antonio said: “I think the way Newcastle have been playing recently, they have been unbelievable, everything has been dropping their way.
“So I’m going to get the Toon fans after me and say there needs to be a blip somewhere and it could be this weekend!
“They can’t win all the games and there must be some sort of karma coming somewhere because that shouldn’t have been a goal!”

Antonio thinks Magpies have been lucky
Newcastle have been a joy to watch at times this season. Eddie Howe has got them playing some really good attacking football and, despite being bottom of Group F in the Champions League, has given Toon fans memories they will never forget in the European tournament.
Antonio, however, clearly believes that we’ve been fortunate to pick up as many good results as we have and that things just seem to be dropping for us.
The Magpies have had two controversial decisions go their way in the last two games, but the awful VAR decisions against them last season have quickly been forgotten.
In any case, any top side in the Premier League needs to have a bit of luck to get to the top, that’s just the nature of the game.
There’s certainly been no campaign from the Premier League to help Newcastle succeed, it’s merely another VAR controversy to add to the long, long list – and that’s just from this weekend.
