West Ham player says it was a ‘dream come true’ to play at St James' Park yesterday

West Ham United defender Vladimir Coufal says it was a dream come true to play against Newcastle United at St James’ Park yesterday.

Speaking in a post-match interview after the 1-1 draw (as shared by West Ham Xtra on Twitter), the 30-year-old lauded the Tyneside atmosphere.

“I really love to play here, it’s something amazing,” Coufal said.

“When I was young, I said it many times, I saw the movie GOAL with Santiago Muñez playing here at this stadium.

“I loved this stadium from my childhood. Dream come true to play here. It’s something amazing for me.

“Fanatic people here, unfriendly atmosphere, an environment that I like.”

Coufal loves playing at SJP

This is a huge testament to the fans inside St James’ Park yesterday.

Although the Magpies didn’t come away with the result they would have hoped for, having gained just a point against the 16th place side, the atmosphere was electric on Tyneside.

The support at Newcastle’s ground has always been fantastic, but ever since Eddie Howe arrived in the north-east, something seems to be different – amongst the staff, players and fans.

The whole club have come together after a number of difficult years, so its brilliant to see the Toon fanbase reaping the rewards of their patience.

As Coufal said, the atmosphere is brilliant to play under at St James’ Park.

As another player inspired by the movie Goal, let’s hope the likes of Kylian Mbappe grew up watching Santiago Muñez dominate in the black and white shirt.

With the money provided by PIF, a number of previously untouchable players could now be options for the Magpies.
