Callum Wilson is proving people wrong with his form for West Ham since leaving Newcastle United.
While it is perhaps too early to say that the Hammers have definitely turned a corner just yet, they are now looking up the Premier League table rather than down it.
The east London club built on last weekend’s Premier League win over Newcastle United with a victory against Burnley on Saturday.
Wilson scored past former teammate Martin Dubravka in the Burnley net to take his tally up to two league goals this season.
Given Newcastle’s lack of depth in the striker position so far this season, that is rather jarring.
Still, it’s brilliant to see Wilson earn the praise of the Hammers faithful.

West Ham fans praise Callum Wilson
Wilson played well against Newcastle last week without scoring but managed to find the back of the net on Saturday.
The 33-year-old may not have convinced during his last few seasons at Newcastle but is certainly proving he can perform at this level. Those who doubted him, whether they were Toon supporters or Hammers fans, may now have something to think about.
“To think that most of the fan base didn’t want Wilson at the club, me included!,” wrote one fan.
Another said: “Everyone screaming against Wilson should be ashamed.”
One fan added: “Callum Wilson still got it, that little movement was crucial.”
Callum Wilson sets impressive new target that could have helped Newcastle United
Wilson remains eager to secure a place in the England squad for next summer’s World Cup.
After the Burnley game, he confirmed that was his target.
“I haven’t retired myself from international football,” he said. “There’s a World Cup around the corner. I had my eye on that from the pre-season, and you’re working hard towards it.”
That feels unlikely at this stage but this is a player who has battled back through so much over the course of his career that he should never really be written off.
Newcastle could do with Wilson right now, particularly one as motivated as he currently is.
Indeed, Newcastle wanted to keep Wilson, although he decided to move after failing to agree a new contract.
When Yoane Wissa returns, Newcastle will have depth behind Nick Woltemade and all should – at least on paper – be well again.
However, the fact Wilson is playing reasonably well at Premier League level all while his former club are struggling for options behind their star man in Woltemade is certainly notable.
