Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has made it very clear where the Magpies must finish this season.

Eddie Howe‘s side are currently seventh in the Premier League with four games to go, but have a very good chance of finishing as high as sixth. It could come down to the game against Manchester United, which will take place on May 15th at Old Trafford.

For Newcastle United, European qualification is still a very real possibility. While the Champions League is out of sight, the Europa League and the Europa Conference League is not.

The Magpies could end up in either competition, and it will all depend on where they finish – and potentially who wins the FA Cup. That is because if Man City lift the trophy then sixth in the Premier League will go into the Europa League. If they do not, sixth will only get Europa Conference League.

It is a definitive final few games for Newcastle United, and Bruno Guimaraes has laid down the gauntlet.

Bruno Guimaraes named Newcastle’s player of the month for April

The 26-year-old has been named the Magpies’ player of the month for April, and is eager to play just as well in May.

Some strong performances from Bruno could result in a strong finish to the season for Newcastle United, with the Magpies preparing for their final four games against Burnley, Brighton, Manchester United and Brentford.

It is vital that Newcastle continue to play well and pick up points, and Bruno has told the club’s official website exactly where he wants to finish in the Premier League table.

Bruno Guimaraes states where Newcastle ‘have to’ finish this season

“As I’ve said before, we have to finish top six,” he said.

“That’s all we’ve been thinking about.

“We have four more games so we have to play well. We’ll put the focus on the next game against Burnley. We’ll go there and try our best to get three points as it’s going to be very important for us.”

European football is Newcastle’s priority

This has been a vey tough season filled with challenges. At one point, it did not look like Newcastle United would overcome those challenges.

But Howe’s side have rallied. European football looked far away a couple of months back, but now it is within reach.

Sixth will give the Magpies what they want, while fifth will give them what they really want. That would mean Europa League qualification, although coming fifth will be extremely difficult.

We are seven points behind Tottenham right now, and they have a game in hand. But they also have some tough fixtures, and people inside the club are not giving up on the idea of finishing ahead of them.

But, as Bruno says, the overall goal is top six. That means European football. That means a trophy to compete for and more chances for fans to make memories.

It also means possibly keeping our best players, as it will be much tougher to convince Bruno or Alexander Isak to stay if we are not in Europe.
