Newcastle United youngsters Rodrigo Vilca and summer signing Santiago Munoz participated in first-team training today.
The players have been going through the motions ahead of Saturday’s absolutely huge Premier League game with Leeds United.
Eddie Howe desperately needs three points, as he seeks to navigate the club away from the relegation zone.
He’s overseen just one win so far, and many supporters are concerned
But we’re in the middle of January, and Newcastle are in the process of strengthening their squad.
It isn’t easy due to the club’s position in the Premier League table. And also the fact that every club in the world is aware of Newcastle’s new financial might.
But Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood have signed, and there are still just under two weeks remaining in the window.
Interestingly, Howe today welcomed a couple of new faces into first-team training.
Chronicle reporter Lee Ryder said that Vilca and Munoz both took part in training with the first-team today.
Vilca is back with Newcastle now having endured an underwhelming loan stint with Doncaster Rovers. A report from the Chronicle suggested the move was a bit of a ‘culture shock’ for the Peruvian starlet.
Munoz signed for Newcastle last summer after the capture of Joe Willock.
The young Mexican hasn’t actually featured for the U23s yet, having suffered a mystery injury.
Vilca and Munoz set for first-team involvement as Eddie Howe casts his eye?
Realistically it would be a big surprise to see Vilca or Munoz become involved with the first-team.
Vilca struggled to make a consistent impact at Doncaster, and Newcastle probably ought to loan him out again or keep him with the U23s.
Newcastle fans would like to hope Munoz could become the club’s hero like Goal’s Santiago Munez. But it would be a major shock if Howe turned to him this soon.
Newcastle have a couple of weeks to get a string of new faces in.
There hopefully won’t be a situation where Howe is relying on inexperienced youngsters to make an impact.
