Bruno Guimaraes has sent a message to Newcastle United fans on social media after their defeat to AC Milan last night.

Newcastle are now out of the Champions League and out of Europe altogether, but after the game Bruno wanted to make sure that the team were holding their heads high.

The Brazilian posted on social media to state just how proud he is of this team and that they will continue fighting for the club and its supporters.

It wasn’t to be Newcastle’s night against Milan

Newcastle completely dominated the first half and deserved to be in the lead with Martin Dubravka not having to make a single save in the opening 45 minutes.

But Milan’s plan worked perfectly in the second half as they were able to hit a tired Newcastle team on the break and once the first one went in it almost felt inevitable that the second would soon follow.

This now means that Newcastle will not be in the Champions League or Europa League and can fully concentrate on domestic competitions with a Carabao Cup quarter-final right around the corner.

Bruno had a very good game last night and showed a lot of desire to try and win the game, it just wasn’t to be. The 26-year-old, however, was keen to keep the spirit up and make sure everyone knew that they had done themselves proud.

On social media, Bruno said: “It’s hard to accept what happened today! I think we deserved more. I am very proud of our team and our fans. We have to go on with our heads held high! Nobody said it would be easy! Whatever happens, Newcastle United will never be defeated.”

Newcastle were just way ahead of schedule

As brilliant as this Champions League campaign has been, Newcastle were definitely not prepared for the intensity or quality of opposition, so to come away with the results that they did was still very impressive.

Realistically, Newcastle’s targets last season should have been either the Europa League or Conference League which still would have added to the fixture list but would have allowed for more rotation and less pressure.

Heading into the next couple of transfer windows, the Magpies now have the experience of being amongst Europe’s elite and can build towards getting back there in the very near future.

Of course, expectations have now been raised because of the immense success of last year, but to finish top six and establish themselves as a quality team should still be the target for Eddie Howe’s side right now.
