Five years after leaving Newcastle United, Moussa Sissoko may be on the move to Watford.

According to Sky Sports, Tottenham are in talks with the Hornets about sending the midfielder to Vicarage Road.

Sissoko could reportedly join Watford permanently, almost five years to the day of his last transfer.

On August 31st 2016, Sissoko completed a dramatic exit from St James’ Park. Tottenham splashed the cash on deadline day, spending £30million on the Frenchman.

By the time he left Newcastle, Sissoko was far from popular.

He was one of the better players in the squad, but failed to deliver on more than one occasion as Newcastle suffered relegation to the Championship.

And rather than go down with grace, Sissoko spoke about his ambitions of playing in the Champions League.

To the surprise of a lot of Toon fans, he would go on to achieve that dream with Tottenham. Even more shockingly, he featured in the 2019 Champions League final.

After a tough start, Sissoko has forged out a decent career in North London, but it could be coming to an end.

Moussa Sissoko could join a relegation rival in Watford

Newcastle have had a tough start to the season, losing to West Ham and Aston Villa.

With limited transfer business, it looks like it’s going to be another difficult season for the Magpies. It’s hard to see anything other than another relegation battle.

And it is likely that they’ll be joined in that battle with Watford. While the Hornets have already got three points on the board, they are still one of the favourites to go down.

However, the potential arrival of Sissoko will boost their survival hopes. The 32-year-old is a very different player now, more concerned with protecting the defence than scoring goals or creating chances.

If Watford can complete a deal it could prove to be an astute piece of business.

Despite his past, he would certainly be welcome back at Newcastle when you consider our current midfield woes.
