Transfer deadline day: Two Newcastle players linked with Middlesbrough

With all these new players arriving, Newcastle need to let some go on transfer deadline day too.

It’s important we sell or loan out some players, otherwise we’ll have an inflated squad full of people who can’t even be registered.

And it looks like two current Magpies could possibly head down to the Championship.

According to TEAMtalk, Middlesbrough are looking to sign Jeff Hendrick. The report states that an initial loan deal has been agreed for the midfielder to join Chris Wilder’s side.

Hendrick, who celebrates his 30th birthday today, has barely featured under Eddie Howe, and the arrival of Bruno Guimaraes only pushed him further down the pecking order.

Ciaran Clark also interesting Middlesbrough

A second Toon player is reportedly a target for Boro – Ciaran Clark. According to reporter Pete O’Rourke, Middlesbrough are considering a move to sign the Toon defender.

He will be allowed to leave on loan, according to the Athletic.

Clark is another player who has had a tough time as of late. He’s made key errors at the back, including a foolish red card against Norwich back in November.

The Republic of Ireland international was also sent off in a friendly on Friday, as Newcastle beat Al-Ittihad 2-1 in Saudi Arabia.

And with Dan Burn reportedly set to join from Brighton, it would make sense for the Magpies to get rid of one of their current centre-back options.

If Clark does go, his time at St James’ Park should be remembered fondly. Signed by Rafa Benitez, Clark was exceptional in the Championship. He’s also excelled in the Premier League at times too, even if this season has been particularly poor.

Newcastle need to offload players today, and it looks like Middlesbrough are keen to help us out. They’re chasing promotion currently, and will hope Hendrick and/or Clark can guide them back to the Premier League.
