The Jesse Lingard to Newcastle United transfer saga is still not over.
So far both the Magpies and Manchester United have been unable to strike a deal, with the Red Devils wanting a ridiculous amount of money.
They’re pricing Lingard out of a move away, as he edges closer towards the end of his Old Trafford contract.
The 29-year-old wants to join Newcastle on loan, but is yet to be given the green light by his current employers.
Last week it looked like the deal was off, but the rumours are continuing to swirl as the deadline edges ever closer.
Jesse Lingard still pushing to join Newcastle
According to the Athletic, the midfielder will make ‘one last push’ to join Newcastle today. They report that he will speak to Ralf Rangnick this morning in an attempt to force through a move.
It was reported last week that the Man United boss had given Lingard his blessing to leave. The problem appears to be with the Man United hierarchy, who simply want too much money for a player they barely use.
They reportedly want his wages covered in full, an initial £2.5million fee than a bonus of £12million if Newcastle avoid relegation. With just 17 Premier League games to go, he’d effectively cost £1million-per-game. Outrageous.
Signing Lingard would be a dream end to the window
While January has been frustrating at times, we’ve made some sensational signings. At the moment, Bruno Guimaraes is the pick of the lot.
But getting a deal done for Lingard would be the icing on the cake. He’s been linked with the Magpies ever since the takeover went through, and always looked like the calibre of player we should be pushing for.
All that is stopping this deal going through is Manchester United. If they give in and lower their demands, Lingard should become a Magpie today. But, of course, that’s a big if.
