Sean Longstaff had a whirlwind start to 2019.

He managed to find a way into the Newcastle starting XI, and did everything he could to keep his place.

Had it not been for an injury sustained away to West Ham, the youngster would probably be in contention to start at Arsenal on Monday.

Longstaff is out for the season with a knee injury, but that hasn’t kept his name out of the headlines.

In a report by the Guardian, they have listed a group of players Tottenham have scouted ahead of the summer, and Longstaff’s name is on it.

He features alongside Jack Grealish, David Brooks, Jarrod Bowen, Max Aarons, Kieran Tierney and Harvey Barnes. In terms of young British players, Longstaff is alongside some pretty impressive names.

Longstaff getting scouted is a testament to his performances

While the immediate thought for fans will be one of worry, this doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing.

When you’re playing as well as the 21-year-old was, the big boys are bound to sit up and take note. And just because Tottenham have reportedly scouted him, that doesn’t mean they’re definitely going to bid, and in turn it doesn’t mean we would sell him.

In his short stint in the starting XI, Longstaff competed against the Premier League’s top sides, and never looked out of place. Calm and composed, a lot of teams would love to have a player like him.

If a club like Spurs are watching him, it just shows what kind of player we have on our hands.
