Mauricio Pochettino is one of the best managers in the world currently without a club, and Newcastle apparently want him.
Bruce is still in charge at St James’ Park, and will likely remain as manager until the end of the season. However, it would be a surprise to see him start next season as Newcastle manager.
ESPN claim the new owners have a four-man shortlist: Pochettino, Max Allegri, Rafa Benitez and Lucien Favre.
While Benitez would be the sentimental choice, the report states that Poch is the top target.
The Argentine has been out of the job since being sacked by Spurs in November 2019. His departure was a shock, having guided Tottenham to the Champions League final that summer.
He transformed Spurs into top four regulars and even title contenders at times, but was never able to win a trophy during his tenure.
Toon fans would likely be buzzing to see Pochettino replace Bruce. Newcastle are going to be a project, and Pochettino has proven in the past that he is a ‘project’ manager.
But what would Tottenham fans make of their former boss returning to the Premier League? The response to the rumours have been interesting to say the least…

Good luck to him, deserves someone to back him. He loves a ‘project’ the geordie fans would idolise him too

Massive fall from grace if that’s the option open to him

Good, he deserves a chance to show what he could have achieved with proper financial backing.

Wait a minute, all the fanboys were shouting from the rooftops that we had the hottest property in world football and that Poch could walk into any top job in the world. It would be hilarious if he ended up at Newcastle and simply prove everything I have said for years.
