Eddie Howe handed three Newcastle United players their first ever senior start last night as they faced off against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup.
Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento both started for the first time following their summer moves to Newcastle and academy player Lewis Miley got his first start for the club in a competitive game after impressing in pre-season.
The 17-year-old played the first half, and while it was a half in which Newcastle rarely saw the ball, all the players on the pitch acquitted themselves well, especially from a defensive point of view.
Newcastle’s debutants all held their own against Man City
For all of Manchester City‘s dominance they rarely had a sight of goal and that was thanks to the hard work from the boys in black and white.

While Hall and Miley were both taken off at half time, they can both hold their heads up high after solid debuts.
After the game, Miley took to Instagram to say “Great win! Into the next round & another very proud moment 🖤🤍”.
Lewis Miley received a ton of praise on Instagram last night
Miley was immediately shown love by Newcastle players past and present with Bruno Guimaraes commenting along with Tino Livramento and Paul Dummett who said “Plenty more to come”.

“Love it superstar” was Sean Longstaff‘s response and there was even a message from Liverpool‘s former Newcastle academy player, Bobby Clark which said “Top Lew”.
Lewis Miley has caught the attention of the Newcastle fans and like Elliot Anderson, will be hoping that he can sustain his challenge for the Newcastle first team and become a key player for the Magpies in the future.
