Some people inside Newcastle United want a new stadium, but it is unclear what PIF want.

They will make the final decision, with the Newcastle United owners set to be presented with options in the near future.

Newcastle are looking at building a new stadium worth £1.2billion, as Toon officials weigh up the best way to increase the club’s revenue and become one of world football’s elite.

However, that is not the only option that the Magpies are considering. Newcastle could still expand St James’ Park, which would provide a much cheaper and quicker conclusion.

As is so often the case with goings on in the North East, PIF’s stance is unknown.

There have been fears that PIF will not invest in a new stadium. However, they insist they are still totally committed to the Toon project, as evidenced by PIF now sponsoring St James’ Park.

But the Telegraph’s Luke Edwards believes there are three reasons why Newcastle United’s Saudi owners may opt against building a new stadium on Tyneside.

Having revealed the latest news on Newcastle’s stadium plans, Edwards has listed three reasons why a new ground might not happen:

Potential location for new stadium will appease some Newcastle United fans

The mood towards a new stadium has shifted. Some fans have become more open to the possibility, after initially being against it.

For many, there is a creeping sense of inevitability given all the talk of PSR and the need for additional revenue.

And with a new stadium possibly being built in the heart of the city, that will at least cushion the blow of leaving St James’ Park.

The reason our current stadium is so special is because of its location, and that is something that the club must not give up. It appears that, no matter what Newcastle decide, the team will continue to compete in the centre of the city.

Toon fans will never be able to make a unanimous decision, but it will be PIF who have the final say.
