It’s clear that Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon needs a break – at least according to England manager Thomas Tuchel.
Gordon is one of five Newcastle United players called up for the final England camps before Tuchel names his squad for the World Cup in May.
Do you think PIF have lost interest in Newcastle United? 🤔
The winger joins Lewis Hall, Tino Livramento, Dan Burn and Aaron Ramsdale in the squad, although Gordon will not play against Uruguay.
Indeed, the 25-year-old is one of the 11 players who Tuchel has afforded time off when his side play against Uruguay, with Gordon set to return when the Three Lions host Japan on the final day of this month.
Tuchel sounds convinced that Gordon needs a rest.
Tuchel convinced that Gordon needs a rest
Speaking at his press conference on Friday, Tuchel said: “I was convinced that Anthony can use a bit of a break.”
Gordon has played 2,709 minutes at club level this season and that has included a lot of travel given Newcastle’s participation in the Champions League.
The links between Bruno Guimaraes and Manchester United – thoughts?
Tuchel likes working with Gordon, and the former Everton star looks nailed-on for the World Cup.
Marcus Rashford would appear to be his biggest competition right now and the Barcelona forward has not convinced in an England shirt for a while now.
In 16 games for his country, Gordon has scored two goals.

Newcastle could benefit from Gordon getting a rest
With neither Yoane Wissa nor Nick Woltemade convincing since they joined the club last summer, Gordon is now Newcastle United’s best striker.
As such, they will need him at his best if they are to make a late dash for Europe during the final few games of the Premier League season.
With that in mind, having a Gordon who hasn’t played twice over the international break can only be a good thing for Eddie Howe.
This hasn’t always been an easy season for Gordon, but he could yet end it in impressive fashion.
