Thomas Tuchel blown away by Newcastle United star, he’s set to go to the World Cup

Newcastle United star Dan Burn now looks to be a fixture in the England set-up under Thomas Tuchel.

Burn only made his England debut back in March, just days after scoring in the Carabao Cup final as Newcastle United ended a 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy.

He’s now won three caps for the Three Lions, establishing himself as an international footballer after playing a starring role under Eddie Howe since his arrival at the club in January 2022.

Burn continues to impress for England but good performances in World Cup qualifiers and friendlies do not always guarantee a place in the squad when it comes to major tournament finals.

However, it seems Tuchel has been mightily impressed.

Dan Burn set to go to the World Cup with England

Indeed, according to The Daily Mail, Burn looks set for a place in the England squad for the 2026 World Cup should they get there.

They are on the verge of qualifying and it would take an almighty shift now to see them struggle to do exactly that, having won all five of their qualifiers thus far.

Tuchel is of the belief that the heat in North America will see a lot of low-scoring matches and games that could be decided by set-pieces.

The German wants Burn as an option for those, while he has also been impressed with the 33-year-old both on and off the pitch.

What Dan Burn has said about going to the World Cup

Clearly, there’s going to be a lot of competition for places. Marc Guehi, John Stones, Ezri Konsa and Levi Colwill (fitness permitting), among others, will all have dreams about going to the World Cup.

Still, Burn is confident in his ability to get there. He has stressed he is not a part of the England squad just to be a cheerleader from the sidelines.

Last month, he said: “It’s the unknown when you come here until you’ve played a game and you don’t know if you can do it, but now I’ve done it and building up the camps, I feel I should be here and deserve my place.

“I’ve been playing well for a long time now and I think that’s built a lot of confidence in me, being successful last season with winning the League Cup and getting into the Champions League so I feel in a really good place.

England will host Wales in a friendly later this month before travelling to Latvia in a World Cup qualifier.
