Eddie Howe has no reason to believe that Newcastle United will be without their number nine against Chelsea on Tuesday night.
The Magpies head to Stamford Bridge, as they look to reach the semi finals of the Carabao Cup for the second consecutive season. It would be quite the achievement, especially considering who Newcastle United have been drawn against and their ongoing injury issues.
One player who has recently returned to fitness is Callum Wilson, with the 31-year-old starting our previous two games. He is back after missing five games with a hamstring injury, and has immediately been leaned on due to Alexander Isak’s fitness concerns.
The Swede looked off the pace against AC Milan, then was missing completely for the win over Fulham.
That has put pressure on Wilson to stay fit, but Eddie Howe is confident that the £20million man is good to go again on Tuesday night.
Eddie Howe believes that Callum Wilson is fit to face Chelsea
Ahead of Newcastle’s Carabao Cup clash with Chelsea, Howe spoke to the media. He was asked about Wilson and Sean Longstaff being able to play yet again, having just recovered from injuries.
“I don’t see any medical reason why they aren’t able to play,” he told the Chronicle.
“They look good to me.”

Newcastle must be careful with Wilson
Obviously Howe is talking about both players, but there is less of a concern over Longstaff. The worry is Wilson, as his fitness record is not brilliant, and it is even more vital that he is available given the fact that Isak is struggling.
It is going to be a big ask, but Wilson might have to start again on Tuesday night. That will make it three starts in a week for the striker, which is probably more than Howe would like.
But if Howe and the medical team are confident that Wilson is good to go then there should be nothing to worry about. They know what is best, while they will be well aware that his load needs particularly close attention given how much he has struggled with injury over the years.
